The vision of the Advanced Technologies for Sustainable Cities (SUIT) Platform is to develop new technologies for smart city infrastructure based on human-centered design and sustainability principles.
Due to the high-risk, high-reward nature of the program, the transformation of these technological developments into products that can gain societal acceptance and achieve widespread adoption may progress at different rates. Therefore, taking into account the rapid pace of global technological development, the scope of the research program and its individual projects has been kept as broad as possible in order to maximize their potential impact.
Alignment with the European Green Deal
Green transition policies, which have gained significant momentum in recent years, have placed climate-related policies at the center of the international economic and trade agenda. The European Union further accelerated this transition with the European Green Deal, announced on December 11, 2019, which set the goal of making Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. In this context, the Presidential Circular concerning Türkiye's "Green Deal Action Plan," which serves as a national roadmap, was published in the Official Gazette on July 16, 2021, and entered into force.
In alignment with the European Green Deal, the technologies targeted for development within the SUIT Platform aim to create impact in the areas of Carbon-Free and Low-Carbon Energy Generation and Grid Management, Electric Vehicles and Fleets and Smart Mobility, Building Energy Efficiency and Carbon Emission Reduction, and Sustainable Water Ecosystems. Innovative Communication and Internet of Things technologies that provide the underlying infrastructure for these solutions, while improving energy efficiency and reducing resource consumption to unprecedented levels, are also among SUIT's core areas of innovation.
