Strategic Target Name: To ensure energy efficiency and end-to-end data freshness by designing innovative, scalable internet of things nodes within the scope of smart city technologies.

Field of Activity of the Project: Internet of Things Technologies, hardware and software components for the innovative and original techniques/methods/algorithms/products/systems providing (data size, delay tolerance, power efficiency, mobility, reliability and security) for the hardware, software and communication protocols suitable for smart automation (building, house, factory) and smart structures, communication technologies, machine-machine, machine-human, machine-infrastructure (M2X technologies); vehicle-vehicle, vehicle-human, vehicle-infrastructure (V2X technologies), data transfer between embedded systems, data collection, transmission and data processing, artificial intelligence activities.

Project Summary: The importance of internet of things nodes and artificial intelligence- based automation systems that will provide energy efficiency within the scope of smart homes, buildings, cities and transportation is increasing in our lives. Our project will implement innovative internet of things nodes by applying the technologies developed in the communication projects of the SUIT platform (especially P1 and P3) on the hardware and will enable them to be implemented in other projects of the platform (P7, P8) and prototype applications for Vestel's developing products.

The first goal of this project is to design of Internet of Things nodes that work with photovoltaic cells and the use of these nodes for different purposes, such as measuring humidity and temperature or detecting the number of people. These types of Internet of Things nodes will not need battery replacement even for long-term use. Our second goal is to enable data freshness in a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) context by using age of information- aware application layer algorithms. By this way, the average delay in the transmission channel will be estimated and the delay that may be encountered in transmission may be reduced by sampling at appropriate frequency or by preventing unnecessary communication, so that the age of information will be reduced. Hence, the energy efficiency of the system is increased and data is transmitted to time-dependent systems based on data processing in a timely manner. The third main goal is to develop field support units to increase the efficiency of solar energy production systems in smart grid systems and to develop artificial intelligence- based decision support systems that will prevent problems that may arise during the charging of electric vehicles and provide user convenience. The fourth goal is to provide automation by evaluating various sensor data (temperature, humidity, energy flow, etc.) to provide energy optimization in smart buildings that will increase user comfort within the scope of developing energy-efficient smart air conditioners.
