Project Summary

Within the scope of the project "Integration of Decision Support System with Distribution Management System for Solar Energy Systems and Electric Vehicle Fleets," a decision support system will be designed to assist in the grid integration of one photovoltaic panel behind the meter and another decision support system to operate electric vehicle fleets optimally.

Decision Support System for Solar Energy Systems

Objective: The aim is to develop a monitoring/control system that will provide the necessary decision support to increase the usage of behind-the-meter solar energy systems connected to low-voltage grids, as real-time monitoring is not feasible due to the lack of sufficient measurement infrastructure and the impracticality of collecting measurements from each point. The goal is to develop a decision support platform with awareness levels similar to THS 6-7 using algorithms at the THS 3 level. The decision support system utilizes Monte Carlo Simulation to model stochastic characteristics derived from regional solar energy forecasts and solves the load flow using the Newton-Raphson load flow method. The results will be visualized to provide situational awareness for users. Subsequently, it will propose topology change solutions, such as changing transformer stages, enabling/disabling shunt devices, or changing transformer stages, using the optimal load flow algorithm.

Decision Support System for Electric Vehicle Fleets

Objective: The purpose is to efficiently operate fleets of electric public transportation vehicles, increase the usage of electric public transportation vehicles, and minimize potential problems with the developed decision support system. The goal is to develop a decision support platform with awareness levels similar to THS 6-7 using algorithms at the THS 3 level. Electric Vehicle Measurement Devices (EVMD) will be installed on each electric bus and collect data. EVMD will primarily perform range estimation for each vehicle (using edge computing) and transmit the estimation result and current status data (traffic speed, battery status, etc.) to the central decision support system known as Electric Vehicle Decision Support (EVDS). EVDS will use the incoming information to make decisions about which charging station each electric bus will use and for how long.
